OUR RETIREE

Mighty, Marvelous Mae seems to be adjusting to retired life beautifully.  This weekend was her first time to the cottage, where she perched herself right by the fires edge all weekend long.

MEET MAE

Meet Mae, the newest addition to our family.  Dave was away this past week dog sledding with all of our school's grade 10 boys up in Algonquin Park and brought one of the dogs home with him Friday night.  We knew it was a possibility.  We had spent some time looking on the Chocpaw site to see which dogs were up for adoption and the boys had made a list for Dave to take away with him.  We have been dogless for over three years.  The loss of Zaphod was heartbreaking for all of us and it has taken me a while to be ready to bring another dog in to our family.  Quinn, Kieran and Dave all made it clear they were all ready and wanted another dog.  I have been the road block.  Zaphod was such a calm, kind and quiet dog I was certain we would never find a dog with that kind of temperament again.  As luck with have it, one of the Lead dogs guiding Dave's group through the trails on sleds this past week was as kind, calm, quiet and caring as Zaphod and Dave fell in love with her.  Mae is 10 years old and has only ever known life as a sled dog.  She has lived in a barrel stuffed with straw with nearly 400 other dogs for 10 years.  She has never slept inside a day in her life, never seen stairs, never eaten kibble, never been walked on a leash except to connect her to her lines to pull a sled.  We anticipated it being an overwhelming adjustment for her, but a-MAE-zingly she has slid right into city life with us.  She has loved the constant snuggles from the boys, she is obsessed with her comfy new bed we bought for her, she even prefers the kiddle we offered her to the frozen slabs of food Dave brought home with him.  We are slowly transitioning her to indoor life, stairs, new food and an overwhelming amount of love for her in our home.  We look forward to introducing her to everyone soon.  Thank You Chocpaw for parting with her a few months early.  We promise to love her and take excellent care of her.

*  I grew up with a yellow lab, we called him Trevor but his full name was
Rostrevor Howard on a Clear Day you can See Forever Bosley.

We thought Mae should have a few middle names so we have named her:

Mae Socks I will Pull You Forever Fitzpatrick
