HONESTY

Late last Thursday evening I received an email from Ms. Chang apologizing for the last minute notice but she had just realized that Dave and I were still on March break and that we would be able to attend the Friday morning Character Education Assembly at school.  Character Ed. Assemblies take place on the last Friday of every month.  March's attribute was Honesty.  Kieran was thrilled to receive the Honesty Award and Dave, Quinn and I were so happy we could be there to be apart of it.  Upon receiving the award we asked Kieran why he thought he was given the award.  Here is what he told me.  "I saw Mr. Meltzer drop a $20 bill from the Spirit Wear sales and I ran down the hall to return it to him."  "I found a Beanie Boo in the school yard and I took it to the office to make sure the owner got it back."  "I found a nickel in the hallway and I took it to the office."  All very honest things to do.  Kieran, we are so very proud of you and love you to bits!  xoxox M.D.Q.

MARCH BREAK COTTAGE TIME

After a day at the zoo, fancy dinner with Nana and Poppy, the maple syrup walk, dreaming at Bass Pro Fishing store and a Wednesday morning family workout at my gym we packed up and hit the road heading for Sandy Lake.  We weren't entirely sure how we were going to fill our days in this "off season" however we certainly had no trouble at all!  The boys loved shoveling off the lake and making a rink.  Unfortunately we didn't think the ice would be that strong so we did not travel with skates but we did manage to have some solid hockey games in boots.  Dave had the brilliant idea of making a bonspiel on the ice.  We used food colouring to die the ice and froze water in aluminum tart tins.  Quite hilarious!  We bowled in Bobcaygeon at the Caygeon Lanes, ice fished (sort of) and laughed a lot.  We walked across the entire frozen lake and look forward to returning to swim the same walk sometime in the summer.  Claw and Grams joined us on Friday for the weekend and instituted early morning pillow fights!!!  Amazing times, thanks for having us!

Looks like the boys win!

End of game high!  Love this shot!

Quinn scored the winning shot!

FUN TO DREAM...

On Tuesday we went up to Kortright and went on the maple syrup hike.  We met the pioneers and learned how they made maple syrup and then continued our journey to the Sugar Shack and learned how farmers today make maple syrup.  We capped the hike off with some pancakes, sausages and fresh maple syrup!  As we drove home we stopped at the Bass Pro Store on the 400.  The boys (all 3 of them) decided to dream big!  Quinn has asked for not one but TWO ATV's, one for him and one for his bro for his upcoming birthday in July.  Dave asked for a $32,000 pontoon boat to hang about the lakes in the summer.  I guess we better start playing the Lottery!

Pretty please can you buy me one or two of these for my 6th birthday???  :)

DELISH & ENTERTAINING

Last Monday Nana and Poppy treated us to an amazing dinner at Maki Sushi at a Teppanyaki table.  The boys LOVED having our chef, Terry cook on the table in front of us.  Very cool!  The boys are excited to go back another time. Thanks Nana and Poppy for introducing us to this great spot!

Shirley Temples and special drinks all around!

A ROUGH MORNING...

Monday mornings have K, Q and I wander our way down Clendenan on our way to school.  I drop the boys at 9am and then walk back up to my gym to teach back to back fitness classes.  This morning was no different than most Monday mornings, we bundled up, grabbed our bags and headed for school.  Q found a solid ice ball and began kicking it down the street.  We all joined in and made a game of it.  Half way down the street Kieran was in the lead, wound up to kick the ice ball and promptly fell.  Quinn was following so close behind that he tripped over Kieran.  The unfortunate part was that he tripped over Kieran's head and Quinn's weight sent K's head slamming into the concrete sidewalk.  Within 60 seconds there was a huge goose egg above his right eye, hovering around his hairline.  We were closest to Quinn's daycare so we went in there to get an ice pack.  We iced it for a few minutes and then carried on to school.  I tried to call the gym but unfortunately nobody was there who could fill in for me.  I left a crying K with his amazing teacher Ms. Chang, she encouraged me to go and teach my classes and then come back for him.  She assured me she would take good care of him, as she always does.  I managed to get my second class cancelled and rushed back to the school at 10:30am for him.  We had a snuggle filled day together and thankfully he's on the mend!

Dave thinks it looks like I hit him with a garlic press!

A NEW DO

This past week the boys had Crazy Hair day at school.  This exposed Quinn to the world of gel and hair spray colour.  Normally a naturalist through and through when it comes to his hair, somehow he embraced the idea of funkifying his do.  This afternoon a trip to MelonHeads on Bloor had his asking for a "faux hawk" and spray colour at the end.  This is the boy that sits in my house at this moment...

The dude with the orange faux hawk playing the guitar!  What a dude!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON FUN

Friday night marked a semi-formal for grade 11 and 12 boys at our school.  As the Dean of Students, Dave takes lead on evenings such as this.  This semi formal was held in the ArtScape Building at Wychwood Barns so in keeping with the "ArtScape theme" Dave brought up some easels from school, stretched canvases, markers etc to allow the boys and their dates to put their artistic talents to use.  Many canvases were not used so Dave set up in our kitchen and had Quinn painting while Kieran was at a birthday party.  Unfortunately, the only paint we had in the house was finger paint; however...  Quinn was in heaven!  As we lay in bed last night he told me painting was the highlight of his day!
